Rosie Redux: O'Donnell Lists Star Island Estate

With her talk show on Oprah's network canceled after just one season—today being it's last day on the air—comedienne, chat show host and lefty-liberal motor mouth Rosie O'Donnell no longer needed or wanted the townhouse she bought a few months ago for $2,250,000 and sold a few weeks ago for $2,500,000.

Apparently the Nyack (NY)-based Rosie O' also doesn't need or want her mansion in Miami Beach, FL because today word comes down the celebrity real estate street via the South Beach Condo Blog (SBCB) that she somewhat surprisingly listed her Star Island estate with an asking price of $19,500,000.

Records show Miz O' picked up the waterfront property in March 1999 for $6,750,000. The Dade County Tax Man shows the just over 1-acre pie-shaped parcel has 203 feet of water frontage with private boat dock. Listing information reveals Rosie O's estate includes an 11,104 square foot main mansion plus two separate and private guesthouses. Listing information also indicates there are 12 bedrooms and 11.5 bathrooms on the property including a "vast master suite" complete with private office, sitting room, fireplace and waterside terrace.

The handsome devil at the SBCB says the estate "has been upgraded from when she originally purchased the property" and listing information reveals there's a "professional kitc[hen]" and "impressive millwork." Outside there's a large motor court that wraps around a giant tree, lots of tropical landscaping that includes a privacy screen of foliage along the water front, various dining and lounging terraces, a built-in barbecue station, and a kidney bean-shaped swimming pool.

Other high-profile residents of Star Island include music mogul Tommy Motola, Miami Beach royal Gloria Estefan, showbiz entrepreneur Sean Combs (otherwise known as P. Faddle or Puff Diddle or whatever) who makes everyone take off their kicks before going inside, shoe tycoon Donald J. Pliner whose house has a fab key-shaped swimming pool, and German property developer Thomas Kramer who appeared in all his kinda-creepy glory on The Real Housewives of Atlanta as one of Kim Zolciak's friends.

Although her house is priced the lowest Miz O'Donnell may face some stiff competition from her neighbors. There are currently at least five other Star Island estates listed on the open market with asking prices from $19,999,999 to $35,000,000.

Are any of the other children suspicious of her Chicago sale?? Hmmm lets see, purchased from a HARPO exec and then sold in ONE day. Dont believe all that you hear kids..remember the comment that she was selling the Chicago place because Corporate housing was sufficient, or something to that effect, just before she and her show got axed? Im thinking she never owned it, or the buyout was part of severance. Either way Oprah was justified in firing anyone who thought the public would want to hear from McNasty ever again.

I am SHOCKED that Rosie would list this place. She's said numerous times that Miami is her favorite place on Earth. Money problems seem to be the only thing I can figure. She has given away so much $$$ to charity and it can't be cheap with kids in expensive boarding schools and maintaining several homes.
Just, wow!

Hot Dayum, I bet this property has stunning architectural delights! Hopefully they have not been covered up by any recent owners!

Love STAR Island but don't love this price!

A fair amount of this place appeared in episodes of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.

She should probably drop the price at least a milli or two to allow for the hardcore fumigation this place will need to be rid of her stench...

I'll guess this has something to do with the soon to be new Mrs. O'Donnell must not like it, or doesn't want the leftovers from the ex Mrs. O'Donnell. She is on the very public side of the island, maybe she is moving further down?
Who knows, but can't waite to find out...

11:46 She also said she loved her "Tommy" Cruise too before she came out (after her first show was washed up, and it wouldnt cost her). She is the anti Ellen in my opinion.

It can't be money problems because if it was a financial issue, a property in Florida is the last thing one would sell thanks to Florida law concerning property and bankruptcy, even if Rosie was flat broke and was cleaned out by her creditors, she'd still retain this house.

I'm thinking there might be too many memories there or it's too big, her children are getting older and perhaps a condo is more suitable for her?

Either way, I like Rosie, faults and all, just as she is and I hope this decision is a business one.

oh no! from the link in the comments she has RUINED this treasure! She has gone and turned the inside colonial fitting a cape cod casa not a spanish/med flair! No authentication and TRACK HOME interiors (nice track home but track home non the less) AND OMG a FISH TANK in the Dining Room and a SHARK above the staircase! I need smelling sauces and some vodka!

Uhhh...what makes it worth triple what she paid for it just 13 years ago (and during a real estate bust, no less)?

A fish tank in the dining room?

Fitting for Rosie, no? Teehee.

New relationship, old home = new home, that's just how it goes. No one that is new to a relationship wants to sleep in the same home and bed that you shared with someone else.

Am I wrong in thinking that somehow it is okay for right wingers to have nasty tongues but left wingers have to speak softly or go away?

I think she's broke, i know about the florida bankruptcy law that someone mentioned, but this property is probably the crown jewel in her portfolio, she probably has an NY apartment worth a couple million and this home worth $19 million so she can either sell her NY apartment for $3 million and move into the Miami home and have enough to get by for a couple years or she can sell the Miami home and have enough money to live forever in her NY apartment, I don't think she's flat broke but I think she'll be broke if she doesn't sell, remember her hit show was only on tv for about 4 years in the 90's, then she stopped working and only came back to tv for less than a year on The View and she didn't make "Rosie Show" money on The View cause she didn't own that show, and after that she had one flop after the next, that reality show that bombed and now her OWN show that bombed, also she invested in a Broadway show that flopped and lost millions and her magazine folded and she was sued and lost millions, you can only live so long off of money you earned over a 4 year period

4:40. Heck, it was her house, and she has owned it thirteen years, too. We all fix our homes to suit our tastes. Why would'n she? I doubt seriously she has "ruined" the house. If someone has the kind of money needed to buy this house, then spending some more to make it like they want it would not be a big deal. Happens all the time.

This is a money thing. Otherwise, she would not be selling this house. She loves it. Her kids love it. She just lost her job, and probably won't find another one now or maybe not ever that will allow her to keep her current lifestyle. She's just not that well liked. Really never was. How she has hung on this long is a mystery to me.

Love your blog Momma - thank you for all the guilty pleasure you bring so many people. As a side note - Diddy, or whatever he is calling himself, bought his Star Island house from Tommy M. who now has a house on the North end of Plam Beach that he is trying to unload.

"P. Faddle or Puff Diddle..." LOL! I love it.
But as a couple other said, I doubt it has to do with money problems and more to do with the new love of her life and memories.

who knows? but the way the house is decorated looks more "beach house" than anything.

Donald Pliner sold his Star Island home. I guess he could no longer afford it since his company went downhill and he had to sell that also.
